Finland is perfectly located for some amazing views of the Aurora Borealis. The country extends from Helsinki in the south at 60°N to the very north at about 70°N latitude. The arctic circle splits the country almost in half with the best Aurora viewing north of this line.
The northern part of Finnish Lapland offers the perfect opportunity to see the Northern Lights from anywhere up to 200 nights a year. We recommend towns of Rovaniemi, Inari, Saariselkä and Kakslauttanen as the best place to see the lights in Finland.
Getting to Finland
The capital city of Helsinki is well served by a wide range of international airlines flying in from all over the world. Lapland where you have the best chance of seeing the Aurora is a bit more difficult to get to. Parts of this area are extremely remote.
Getting to Rovaniemi from Helsinki
Getting to Saariselkä from Helsinki
To get to Saariselkä you can fly via Ivalo airport from Helsinki which takes approx 4 1.2 hours. You can also get a combination of flights to Rovaniemi and then train or bus the rest of the way.
Finland Aurora Tours and Accommodation

Finland Aurora tour options include snowshoeing, snowmobile, sled dog or even reindeer. These tours increase your chances of seeing the Northern Lights in Finland by moving away from light pollution in town and cities.
